Must-Read Advice on Selecting the Perfect Wedding Cake

July 16, 2018 | Posted in Trends, Uncategorized, Weddings

Before you started planning your wedding, all you probably knew about cake was that you wanted one that tastes and looks great. Now that it’s actually time to choose a wedding cake for your reception, the choices are so plentiful you have no idea on which is right for you and your guests. Though taste and aesthetics are important, here are a few more factors you’ll need to choose the perfect wedding cake.

Have Your Guest List on Hand

The size and cost of the wedding cake are essentially determined based on the number of guests you’re having. Before deciding on a cake, you need to have at least a general idea of how many guests will be in attendance. If you’re only inviting a handful of people, you’ll be fine with a two-tier cake, however, if you’ll have a large number of guests you’ll need a larger cake.

The Weather Matters Too

Here’s one you probably haven’t heard yet… when choosing a wedding cake you also need to consider the weather, or the temperature at the venue. If you’re having an outdoor wedding, for example, you don’t want to choose whipped cream or buttercream as a frosting option, because they easily melt. You’ll need to make your baker aware of the weather so they can choose proper cake and frosting options.

Don’t Go Crazy on Flavor

Unless you want to end up taking a huge amount of wedding cake home, it’s important to keep your guests in mind when selecting a flavor. Sure, you might love carrot or red velvet cake, but if most of your guest prefer vanilla or chocolate, it won’t go over so well. If you want to play around with flavors, ask the baker to make the smallest tier a flavor you and the groom love the most. This way when you most likely take that tier home to freeze and eat at your first anniversary, you know you will enjoy it. You might also want to consider guests who may have allergies to nuts or chocolate.

Let the Groom Have Some Fun

Brides tend to want an elegant cake with beautiful details. It’s the grand cake that often takes center stage as your guests walk into the reception hall. Yet, grooms should have some say in the cake options, because lets face it, most grooms don’t have much say in the flowers or table linens. If the two of you can’t come to an agreement, you can always go with a groom’s cake just for him.

There’s a lot more to deciding on the perfect wedding cake than choosing the overall theme and flavor. From the location and guest list, to the weather and more, there are a lot of factors that go into making a choice. A basic wedding cake is included in all of our wedding packages, however, for couples who want to take it up a notch, these tips should help you in finding the perfect cake.
